Susanna Augustine (1784 to 1855) is the daughter of Port Haven founder Samuel Augustine, the town's healer, and a direct ancestor of Elliot. She stays behind to care for her ailing father and run the family store while her brothers are off in Upper Canada. Tough, observant, and quietly subversive, she becomes Kat's most important ally in the past.
